for quite some time now, everytime i left düsseldorf using the freeway, i saw this awsome ruin of the old "garzweiler-alt" brewery (düsseldorf has lots of beer-brands) and i always wanted to go there to take some photos.
so these days, a friend of mine, who is spending a voluntary year in israel, came back to düsseldorf for one week and together we finally found a hole in the barbwirefence to break in.
the problem is, that the whole site isnt isolated but in the midlle of a housing area on the west and an office-complex on the east, both of them having an overwiev about huge parts of the terrain.
and you know: in germany the probability of finding some old fella, who has nothing else to do than staring out of his window and calling the cops once in a while, is slightly higher than in other countries...
but at the end, everything went well and we spent some evening hours exploring the area and taking photos. the whole site is just amazing:
you got two big buildings with about 6 to 9 floors, several deserted yards, several huge warehouses and a lot of industrial rooms were the tanks and brewerymachines were, before the closed its doors.
you got water dripping from the ceilings, a flooded basement (which totally looks like one of the typical half-life 2 sewer maps) birds housing in the rooms (which can scare the shit out of you when they suddenly fly over your head) and a hell of a lot of düsseldorfs grafitty-scene. and the place is totally fucked up - there is not one single window in the whole complex, which is not shattered.
the whole thing is like every little boys dream about the perfect adventure-playground.
i loved it.
i dunno if the pics are any good - but i'll definitly put some of them into my "scraps" category.
